OME Pathway - Unilateral OME

  • If OME is unilateral monitor and review with tympanometry/pneumatic otoscopy.
  • Consider moving the child's position in the classroom with the unaffected ear closest to the teacher.
  • Consider referral to ENT if unilateral OME persists for 6 months, but note that with current thresholds child unlikely to be seen.
  • Earlier referral may be needed if there are complicating factors.
