Rorarix (GSK) is the only rotavirus vaccine available in New Zealand.  It has been used in other parts of the world since 2005.

Rotavirus vaccine is very effective against severe rotavirus gastroenteritis with the vaccine preventing around half of all hospital admissions for all cause acute gastroenteritis in the clinical trials. Efficacy against severe rotavirus gastroenteritis is around 85 - 100%.

Vaccine available:

Monovalent human G1 rotavirus vaccine (Rotarix ®, GSK)

  • First dose between 6 and 14 weeks of age.
  • Second dose between 14 and 24 weeks of age.
  • Cost is about $120.00 per vaccine.
