Gastroenteritis Pathway - When to Perform Stool Microbiology


Perform stool microbiology if:

Consider performing stool microbiology if:

  • There is blood or mucus in the stool or
  • If child is immunocompromised or you
  • Suspect septicaemia - refer
  • The child has recently been abroad¬†or
  • The diarrhoea has not improved by day 7 or
  • You are uncertain about the diagnosis of gastroenteritis
