Waipuna Hospice has decided not to accept admissions to our In-Patient unit while in either Level 4 or Level 3. This allows us to channel and focus our resources to the community. We believe this is important moving in to Level 3 whereby patients will likely have less support from family members returning to work.
We will continue providing care to Waipuna Hospice community patients using an interdisciplinary team approach. This will allow a comprehensive assessment and decision making process to meet the palliative issues for each patient, family, whānau.
At Level 4 lockdown, face to face interactions have been made in essential cases only and will remain limited at Level 3 as guided by MoH advice. A decision to visit a patient/ family or whānau will be shared by our interdisciplinary team with medical input.
For patient care matters please continue to phone us on 07 552 4380. Our staff are available 24/7 , and we will ensure you are linked to the right person.
Please continue to use Bpac for new referrals and please include your contact details, in particular your cellphone number or direct dial number in the body of the referral.
Upon new patient referral you will be given more specific information about service delivery.
Injectable medications:Currently syringe drivers are being drawn up on the hospice site together with pre-drawn top-up medications to minimise time in the patients home. In the event that you wish to start a syringe driver we would ask you to send the prescriptions to Unichem Bethlehem Metro pharmacy to allow us to hold the named medication supply for the patient at hospice. If you have any questions or concerns about this please don’t hesitate to contact us for discussion as we are aware that this is a new process.
Reviews of patients as part of the IDT process for Waipuna Hospice patients:
Part of our interdisciplinary team process includes regular reviews of patients. We would like to contact you in regards to a new initiative whereby a zoom meeting with you for a case conference to discuss existing patients, and potentially new patients should you choose to raise them could occur.
