Chlamydia Pathway - Management of sexual partners

Contacts who are at risk of infection should be informed and encouraged to attend for evaluation and epidemiological treatment.

Testing:

  • chlamydia testing – see 'Sampling' care point above for further information
  • all sexual partners should be offered, and encouraged to have a full sexually transmitted infection (STI) screen.

Treatment:

  • should be offered immediately without waiting for test results
  • current partners should be treated irrespective of result
  • if treatment is declined, advise to abstain from sex until they have received a negative test result
  • if found to be positive following testing, any other potentially exposed partners will need to be screened and offered epidemiological treatment.
