COPD Pathway - Manage Primary/Secondary

There are five important components of COPD management:

  1. Reduce risk factors to prevent decline in function.
  2. Stable COPD
  3. Regular medications
  4. Acute exacerbations
  5. Management of Acute Exacerbation in General Practice
  6. End-stage COPD
  7. Patient information and services
  8. Respiratory Exercises Classes
  9. COPD Support Groups

Adjust patient treatment and management plans over time, and review:

  • At least annually as part of monitoring.
  • In response to and following an acute exacerbation.
  • For detailed guidelines, refer to the Australian Lung Foundation COPD-X Guidelines (updated annually).
