OST Prescribing Pathway - What to do when GP on leave/absent

GPs are urged to appoint a locum or practice partner to prescribe methadone or suboxone to their authorised patients in their absence and to ensure that BOPAS, locum/practice partner and other practice staff are informed of this.

The BOPAS, GP Liaison Nurse is also available to support the locum/practice partner.

Should the GP plan to be away for longer than three months he/she needs to contact the GP Liaison Nurse so that BOPAS can arrange authorization(s) for the locum or a practice partner (as required by Medsafe) and provide training and extra support.
