Adult Pneumonia Pathway- Causes of slow resolution or recurrent infection

  • If pneumonia not resolving at expected rate, consider endobronchial obstruction, tuberculosis or other diagnoses
  • If recurrent pneumonia in same segment, consider endobronchial obstruction, bronchiectasis or foreign body
  • If recurrent pneumonia/chest infections, consider:
    • IgG or IgA deficiency
    • Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or HIV
    • Cystic fibrosis or bronchiectasis
  • Consider discussion with duty respiratory physician
